Shooting incident unfolds on Monday evening in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, as a gunman armed with an AR-style rifle opened fire inside the skyscraper at 345 Park Avenue, which houses the NFL headquarters and several major financial firms. The attack began around 6:30 PM local time and resulted in the deaths of four people, including a New York Police Department officer and three civilians. The suspected shooter, acting alone, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to authorities.

As police moved quickly to put the building and its surroundings under lockdown, search for more threats, and assist the injured, chaos broke out. Another person was reported seriously injured by emergency services and taken to a hospital. There is no longer any ongoing threat, according to law enforcement officials.

Employees in surrounding offices hid in place until NYPD secured the area, and witnesses reported scenes of panic as gunfire erupted. Officials have not disclosed the identity of the shooter or victims, and the motive behind the shooting is still being investigated.

As the investigation progresses and the city grapples with the horrific violence in one of its busiest districts, authorities are anticipated to provide more updates throughout the day.
