Starbucks drinkers are now entitled to enjoy free refills for their beverages across select stores in the U.S. and Canada, adding a higher value for money to the café experience. Here’s a rundown of details you should know about the deal:
Reintroduced in January of 2025, Starbucks free refill policy adds new elements such as a condiment bar. The company explains that the offer entitles customers to free refills of hot or iced brewed coffee or tea within the same visit. It does not cover beverages such as Cold Brew, Nitro Cold Brew, Iced Tea Lemonade, flavored iced teas, and Starbucks Refreshers.
How to Get Your Free Refill
To receive a refill, your first drink will be served in a ceramic cup or glass. You may also use your own clear, reusable container. When you finish your drink, you can request a refill. Note that the refill will only be hot or iced brewed coffee or tea, not the drink that you ordered originally. If you wish to add any modifiers on your refill, you will pay extra, though your original drink may have contained modifiers.

Here are some important points to keep in mind when you go tot he store before asking for a refill.
- The offer is only during the same trip to the store, so you need to remain in the café after your initial purchase to have a refill.
- Customers who order through Mobile Order & Pay (MOP) or drive-thru but consume their drink in the café are entitled to the free refill.
- There is no limit on the number of refills you can ask for.
- No time gap is needed between the original drink and when you ask for the refill, but the original drink has to be consumed before you order a refill.
- Refills can’t be requested at the drive-thru.
- Refills can be carried away in disposable cups.
Starbucks India introduced a similar offer in 2023 of a free refill on certain core drinks, including Cold Brew Black, Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew, Iced Latte, and Iced Americano. For this offer, customers need to remain in the café for a minimum of one hour, and the offer is only valid until 2:00 pm.
