Seedhe Maut: The Rise and Rise of India’s Greatest Rap Duo

Seedhe Maut is a Delhi based rap duo consisting of Abhijay Negi (Encore) and Siddhant Sharma (Calm).

They met at Spit Dope Inc. which is an underground rap battle contest based in Delhi. The two started off with nothing, writing songs about hustling and aiming to be the best in business. ’Seedhe Maut Anthem’ was the first song released by them in May 2017, followed by their debut mixtape, ‘2 ka Pahada’.

They were then signed to Azadi Records, an independent music label.

The Rise of Seedhe Maut

2018 marked their first studio album, ‘Bayaan’ with 12 tracks, produced by Sez on the Beat. They also had features in two of these songs from Vaksh and Bawari Basanti. With their unique blend of lyricism, charisma, and authenticity, Seedhe Maut has undoubtedly carved a niche for themselves in the Indian music landscape.

They released another mixtape in 2021, titled ‘’ with the name of each track starting with the letter ’N’. This mixtape has a track called ‘Nanchaku’ featuring MC STAN, a Pune based rapper. This immediately became their most popular track, it currently has over 3 crore streams on Spotify. While previously, they were only being appreciated by Hip Hop fans across the country, the release of ‘Nanchaku’ helped them expand their horizons to the general youth of the nation.

The Ascent Continues

‘Nayaab’ was the name of their second studio album, released in 2022. This album has 17 songs, and for many fans, this album is the sequel to their 2018 album, Bayaan.

Comparing this album to Bayaan, we can see how much they have grown in a span of just 4 years. They have added multiple references to their previous album, which can only be noticed by true Seedhe Maut fans, as they’re very subtle and hidden in plain sight. It was around this time that their shows and concerts started blowing up.

Collaboration With Groundbreaking Artists

2023 was when the duo released a mixtape called ‘Lunch Break’, with a groundbreaking 30 tracks. This album features a lot of popular artists such as Badshah, Raga, KR$NA and many more. ‘Khatta Flow’ and ‘Luka Chippi’ are two tracks from this album that really caught everyone’s attention. The unapologetic lyricism and catchy flow from the duo caused them to create major movement in the ‘Desi Hip Hop’ community.

In 2024, they parted ways with Azadi Records and founded their own record label called ‘DL91’. They have also announced the release of their new project, ‘Kavi Kehna Chahte Hai’ and have mentioned that it is going to have 60 songs. Seedhe Maut has continued to captivate audiences with their high-energy performances and thought-provoking lyrics, their ascent shows no signs of slowing down.
