Sandra Oh joins Aziz Ansari’s comedy film ‘Good Fortune’

Canadian and American actress Sandra Oh, renowned for her roles in ‘Killing Eve’ and ‘Arliss’, has been cast in Aziz Ansari’s upcoming directorial venture, ‘Good Fortune’, as reported by Deadline. The film also features Seth Rogen, Keanu Reeves, and Keke Palmer in prominent roles.

Details about Oh’s character and the movie’s plot are being kept under wraps. Ansari helmed the film from his own script and produced it alongside Anthony Katagas and Alan Yang, with Aniz Adam Ansari and Jonathan McCoy serving as executive producers. Lionsgate’s Brady Fujikawa and Jon Humphrey are overseeing the project.

‘Good Fortune’ marks Ansari’s second directorial project, following the Searchlight dramedy ‘Being Mortal’, which was halted in 2022 due to allegations against cast member Bill Murray. Ansari previously directed his 2022 comedy special ‘Nightclub Comedian’ for Netflix, as well as 11 episodes of the acclaimed Netflix series ‘Master of None’, which he co-created with Yang.

In a statement to Deadline, Ansari humorously remarked on the nature of PR announcements, stating, “It’s always so exciting when I get the opportunity to write a quote for a PR announcement. However, I’m pretty sure no one reads past the headline and gets to my quote except someone vetting this at Lionsgate PR.” He then playfully recommended literary works like ‘Crime and Punishment’, the novellas of Stefan Zweig, and ‘Lonesome Dove’.

Expressing his excitement about Oh’s involvement in the film, Ansari said, “Sandra Oh is wonderful and I’m so excited she is a part of our film.” He concluded with a nod to his busy schedule, adding, “I must return to the edit now. Best wishes to all readers.”

Oh, known for her leading roles in ‘Killing Eve’ and ‘The Chair’, as well as her long-running role on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and films like ‘Sideways’, can currently be seen starring opposite Awkwafina in the 20th/Hulu comedy ‘Quiz Lady’, which premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival. She is also set to appear in the upcoming series ‘The Sympathizer’ alongside recent Oscar winner Robert Downey Jr., which premieres on April 14, according to Deadline.
