‘Mediterranean Diet Helps Cancer Survivors Stay Healthy’

New research from Italy shows that the Mediterranean diet can really help people who have survived cancer. This diet includes foods like whole grains, fruits, vegetables, seafood, beans, and nuts, and it’s known for keeping your heart healthy.

Researchers studied 800 Italian adults who had beaten cancer. Over more than ten years, they found that those who followed a Mediterranean diet were 32% less likely to die early. They also had a 60% lower risk of dying from heart problems.

The Mediterranean diet focuses on plant-based foods and healthy fats, like olive oil. It suggests eating dairy, lean meats like chicken and beans, and not eating much red meat, processed foods, or sugary drinks. Eating fish twice a week is good for your heart.

This diet is good for you because it has antioxidants from fruits, veggies, and olive oil, which help your body stay healthy. It also helps control cholesterol and keeps your heart strong—especially important if you’ve had cancer.

Besides helping your heart, the Mediterranean diet can help you stay a healthy weight, keep your blood sugar steady, and support your digestion. Some studies also suggest it can protect your brain as you get older.

The Mediterranean diet isn’t just about food—it’s about living well after cancer. Choosing this diet can improve both how long you live and how good you feel. As more research shows its benefits, doctors may recommend it more often to help cancer survivors live healthier lives.
