Actor Kit Harington, famous for playing the Night Watch Commander in Game of Thrones, recently said that a Jon Snow spinoff is “off the table.”
Harington, aged 37, mentioned that the show had previously been in the works at HBO, but it has now been canceled. The actor said he and HBO creators scrapped the series because they “couldn’t find the right story to tell.”
Reports of a potential Jon Snow spinoff surfaced in 2022, yet both Harington and HBO maintained a discreet stance, refraining from disclosing further details. Subsequently, speculation arose regarding a purported fallout between Kit Harington and HBO, which was swiftly dispelled when the actor refuted such claims.
During recent promotions for his new crime drama “Blood for Dust,” Harington revealed his deliberate avoidance of discussing the series during its developmental stages, fearing premature excitement or agitation among the Game of Thrones fanbase.
“In development, you look at every angle, and you see whether it’s worth it,” Harington said of the spinoff. “And currently, it’s not.”
Harington stated that the concepts proposed during the development phase failed to elicit enough enthusiasm from him and the HBO team to proceed with production.
“We decided to lay down tools with it for the time being,” Harrington said. “There may be a time in the future when we return to it, but at the moment, no. It’s firmly on the shelf.”
HBO has refrained from issuing any statements regarding the cessation of development for the Jon Snow spinoff.
Following the conclusion of the immensely popular television series Game of Thrones in 2019, which culminated in a finale largely criticized by both critics and fans alike.
The prequel House of the Dragon has maintained a firm hold on much of the Game of Thrones fanbase. Additionally, it has garnered the interest of new enthusiasts with its narrative surrounding an internal House Targaryen succession conflict. The second season premieres on June 16 further fuelling anticipation.
Furthermore, another prequel titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is currently underway. Set a century preceding the events of Game of Thrones, this project is overseen by executive producer George R. R. Martin, the author of the original novels.
