Anasuya Sengupta Returns To Delhi After Historic Cannes Win

Actor Anasuya Sengupta, who made history by winning the Best Actress award at the 77th Cannes Film Festival for her role in ‘The Shameless,’ received a warm welcome upon her arrival at Delhi airport.

Originally from Kolkata, Sengupta expressed her gratitude and excitement, stating, “It feels great. I just want to go back to the family and take a rest for two days. I will be back after that. I want to thank everyone.” Her win marks a significant milestone for Indian cinema on the global stage. ‘The Shameless,’ executive produced by Deepti Chawla, competed in the Un Certain Regard section of the festival and was widely acclaimed. In her acceptance speech, Sengupta dedicated the award to marginalized communities worldwide and emphasized the importance of diverse perspectives in filmmaking. The 77th Cannes Film Festival also saw other Indian triumphs, including Payal Kapadia’s ‘All We Imagine as Light’ winning the Grand Prix award and special screenings of Shyam Benegal’s ‘Manthan.’ Additionally, Indian films secured top honours in the La Cinef Selection, further highlighting India’s growing influence in global cinema.
