An ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh to be given to the next of kin of those who have lost their lives in the tragedies. The injured would be given Rs. 1 Lakh. Directed the district administrations to provide all possible assistance to the families expeditiously”.
Earlier on Thursday in a devastating incident today, at least eight passengers lost their lives and seven others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident that occurred in the Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The accident took place when an overloaded vehicle skidded off the road, plummeting into a deep gorge at Bujthalan Tatmulla Uri this afternoon. The impact of the crash resulted in the immediate loss of seven lives, with eight others critically injured.
Dr. Khursheed Ahmad Khan, the Block Medical Officer of Boniyar Uri, confirmed that seven deceased individuals were brought to Boniyar Primary Health Center (PHC), while eight critically injured victims were urgently referred to GMC Baramulla. Among the injured, the condition of three is reported to be critical.
The Medical Superintendent at GMC Baramulla reported that eight injured individuals were received at the facility. Unfortunately, one of them succumbed to injuries, bringing the total death toll to eight.
A police official on the scene stated that the slippery road conditions, worsened by recent snowfall, likely played a role in the accident. The vehicle, carrying a total of 15 passengers, was overloaded, potentially escalating the severity of the incident.
Promptly after the accident, a swift rescue operation was initiated at the crash site, with authorities rushing to provide assistance to the victims. The injured were immediately transported to GMC Baramulla for urgent medical treatment.
The local community and authorities are extending their condolences to the families affected by this tragic incident. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are underway. Authorities urge all drivers to exercise caution, especially during adverse weather conditions, to prevent such unfortunate events in the future.
In response to the tragic incident, authorities have registered a case and initiated investigations to determine the exact circumstances leading to the accident.
