The Supreme Court Collegium recommended for the appointment the Addl. Judge of the Gauhati High Court, Justice Robin Phukan as the Permanent Judge of the Gauhati High Court.
The Central Government in its notification stated that with regards to the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, thus, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Robin Phukan, the Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court, to the Judge of the Gauhati High Court, with effect from the date Justice Robin Phukan assumed the charge of his office.
The Supreme Court Collegium, SCC bench comprising of CJI Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice K. M. Joseph recommended the name of Justice Robin Phukan, the Additional Judge, for appointment as a permanent judge of the Gauhati High Court.
The Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court in consultation with the two senior-most Judges had recommended the name of Justice Robin Phukan on 23.03.2023, for appointment as the permanent Judge.
Therefore, the Chief Ministers also concurred with the said recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium of the States of Assam, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh and the Governors of the States of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh.
