The Kerala High Court for the very first time, live-streamed its proceedings on YouTube on Saturday.
On Saturday, the court held a special sitting for hearing a batch of petitions which challenged the Dewaswom Board notification inviting applications only from Malayala Bhramins for the appointment as Melshanthi of Sabarimala.
The division bench comprising of Justice Anil K. Narendran and Justice Ajith Kumar was hearing the matter. The same has been adjourned by the Court to December 17, 2022, for further hearing.
However, it is not known that the high court will continue the practice of live-streaming in future also.
The Kerala High Court by live streaming its proceedings on YouTube has joined the likes of the High Courts of Gujarat, Gauhati, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Patna, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, and Telangana, which had also taken such step to enhance the transparency and the accessibility. In October 2020, the Gujarat High Court was the first court to begin live-streaming proceedings through YouTube in India.
For the first time on 26th August 2022, the Supreme Court also live streamed its proceedings for the first time on the last working day of former CJI N.V. Ramana’s tenure. The Supreme Court in September took the historic step to commence the live-streaming of the hearings before the Constitution Benches, while receiving huge public response with lakhs of people watching the videos.
