Delhi High Court: Summon Issued To BBC, Wikipedia And Internet Archive In BJP Leader’s Defamation Suit; BBC Documentary On PM Modi

The Delhi High Court in the case observed and has issued a summon to British Broadcasting Corporation, the Wikimedia Foundation and Internet Archive in a suit filed for defamation by the BJP leader Binay Kumar Singh, wherein seeking to restrain them from publishing the BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi or any other material which relates to RSS and Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
Therefore, the Additional District Judge Ruchika Singla of Rohini Courts issued a summon in the suit filed through Advocate Mukesh Sharma.
The court in its order stated wherein directing the defendant to file his written statement within 30 days from the date of service of the summons. Thus, the endorsement is to be made on the summons accordingly.
Further, the suit filed stated that the allegations made in the documentary being against the RSS and Vishwa Hindu Parishad are being motivated by malicious intent in order to defame the organizations and also its members or volunteers.
It has also been claimed by Singh to be an active member of RSS and VHP, wherein it has been stated by him that the already banned two volume documentary series is still readily being available in the public domain on Wikimedia and the Internet Archive.
Therefore, the suit filed stated that the plaintiff has worked assiduously over decades to build the career of the petitioner and his reputation and if the said matter is being left unchecked, thus, it will permanently demolish the Plaintiffs hard-earned reputation and career and even though the Plaintiff being a championship of free speech, he is being compelled for seeking an immediate injunction to safeguard his reputation and livelihood. The Singh in the suit also seek for an order of unconditional apology which being on the part of the defendant to him and as well as to the RSS and Vishwa Hindu Parishad for the alleged libellous and the defamatory content which is being published in the two volume document series.
