Day to Day Hearing On Charges To Start From September 11, 2023: Delhi Riots Larger Conspiracy Case

The Delhi High Court in the case observed and has ordered day to day hearing on the point of framing of charges against the accused persons in the case wherein it alleged the larger conspiracy in the 2020 North-East Delhi riots. The Additional Session Judge bench of Judge Amitabh Rawat of Karkardooma Courts was hearing the present matter.
The court stated to list the matter for the arguments on the point of charge on September 11, 2023 for day-to-day hearing Ld. Special Public Prosecutor shall begin the arguments on September 11, 2023. However, the same being after the stage of the compliance as stated under section 207 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the supply of documents with regards to the charge sheeted accused persons is complete on August 06, 2023, which being more than two years after the proceedings in the case began in September 2020 with the filing of the first chargesheet. Therefore, the Delhi Police in the case has filed the total of four chargesheets in FIR 59/2020 which is being probed by the special cell. Thus, while the first chargesheet was filed on 16.09.2020, the three supplementary chargesheets were filed on 22.11.2020, 24.02.2021 and 02.03.2022.
The Judge in the case closed the aspect of compliance under section 207 of Code of Criminal Procedure for the 17 accused except Devangana Kalita and the same was being completed on August 06, 2023. The name of the accused are Tahir Hussain, Umar Khalid, Khalid Saifi, Isharat Jahan, Meeran Haider, Gulfisha Fatima, Shifa-Ur-Rehman, Asif Iqbal Tanha, Shadab Ahmed, Tasleem Ahmed, Saleem Malik, Mohd. Saleem Khan, Athar Khan, Safoora Zargar, Sharjeel Imam, Faizan Khan and Natasha Narwal.
It has also been directed by the said court that all the accused person to appear physically on next date onwards.
The court in the case observed and has stated that the I.O., the Investigation Officer concerned shall remain present on the next date of hearing and the copy of the said order be sent to the concerned Jail Superintendent for information and compliance.
Adding to it, the Special Public Prosecutor appearing for the State and the Ld. Counsels for all the accused persons.
