Centre tells Supreme Court: Appointment process for 15 NCLT vacancies complete

In the case Amrendra Kumar Singh vs Union of India and Anr, the Central Government informed the Court that the process for appointments against 15 vacancies in the National Company Law Tribunal is complete and the letters of appointments have been sent. Further, it has been stated by the Centre that the selection process for the remaining 19 vacancies is under way.
The bench comprising of Justice Krishna Murari and Justice S Ravindra Bhat observed while taking note of this bench and has stressed that the filling up of vacancies must be done with importance.
Justice Krishan Murari orally stated that without investigation of this court, no steps can be taken by the Government regarding appointments, until a direction is being passed and monitoring is done by this court.
The Top Court was appraised by the Union of the fact that while advertising the 19 vacancies, it will also take the vacancies that will arise in the future were also taken into consideration. In relation with the vacancy in the NCLT, the court informed that there was one vacancy which arose in October 2022 and the process for filling that vacancy will soon begin.
The court while taking note of the progress which is being made by the Union in the appointment of the members in NCLAT and NCLT, the court listed the matter for further hearing after 6 weeks.
