Centre notified the appointment of 5 Judges to Supreme Court of India, working strength rises to 32

The Supreme Court Collegium while making recommendations, it has been notified by the Centre the appointment of 5 Judges to the Supreme Court of India. The 5 judges whose appointments have been notified by the Supreme Court are:

1. the Justice Pankaj Mithal, the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court,

2. Justice Sanjay Karol, the Chief Justice of Patna High Court,

3. Justice P. V. Sanjay Kumar, the Chief Justice of High Court of Manipur,

4. Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah, the Judge, Patna High Court and

5. Justice Manoj Misra, Judge, the Allahabad High Court.

Presently, the Supreme Court of India has a sanctioned strength of thirtyfour Judges and is presently functioning with twenty-seven Judges. The working strength of the Supreme Court of India will rise to 32 with these appointments. Therefore, the said court made the appointments a day after the Attorney General for India R Venkataramani has informed the Supreme Court that the Central Government will very soon clear the recommendations forwarded by the Supreme Court of India collegium in December 2022 to elevate five High Court judges to the Supreme Court.

At present, the Supreme Court remains only two vacancies, which could have been filed in the coming days if Supreme Court Collegium January 31 proposal to elevate Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Gujarat High Court Chief Justice Aravind Kumar as Supreme Court judges is being accepted by the president. As per the said provisions of the Constitution of India, it has been appointed by the Hon’ble President of India by the following Chief Justices and Judges of the High Courts as Judges of the Supreme Court.
