In a big success, security forces successfully eliminated two terrorists, including top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Basit Dar, during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on May 7.
The operation was launched following credible intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists in Redwani village, Kulgam. Police, along with security forces comprising Army and CRPF, initiated a meticulously planned cordon-and-search operation late on Monday night.

IGP Kashmir Vidhi Kumar Birdi confirmed the successful culmination of the operation, stating, “Police and security forces, in coordination with the Army and CRPF, cordoned off the area. The operation continued throughout the night, concluding today afternoon with the neutralization of two terrorists and retrieval of their bodies.”
During the exchange of gunfire, the house where the terrorists had taken refuge caught fire on Tuesday morning, as per officials.

Providing further insights into the identities of the terrorists, IGP Birdi revealed, “One of the slain terrorists, Basit Dar, belonged to TRF ‘A’ category and was involved in more than 18 cases. He was implicated in planning conspiracies to target minorities, police forces, and civilians.” aDespite repeated calls for surrender, the terrorists persisted in firing upon the security personnel, ultimately leading to their demise in the encounter, the IGP highlighted. The successful neutralization of these terrorists underscores the resolute commitment of security forces in ensuring peace and stability in the region, while also dealing a significant blow to the nefarious designs of terrorist outfits operating in Jammu and Kashmir.
