After the unprecedented Covid-19 second wave, the seasonal flu is wreaking havoc on Delhi, Haryana, and the UP populace. LocalCircles has surveyed residents of Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. After the Survey, they received close to 15700 responses from the National Capital Delhi, 6,000 responses from residents across 16 districts of Haryana, and 6454 responses from the residents of Uttar Pradesh. They all are claiming to have Flu-like symptoms but NOT COVID. It’s a Seasonal Flu.

People report a longer recovery period, with headaches and fatigue lasting for 5-7 days. LocalCircles has conducted a survey asking questions on the number of individuals in their household who are having flu symptoms like fever, runny now, cough, headache, body ache, etc. In response, 3% of Uttar Pradesh’s residents said there are currently “2-3 individuals” with flu-like symptoms in their households. 7% said there is only “1 individual” with similar symptoms. On an aggregate basis, 10% of Uttar Pradesh’s households have 1 or more members who are currently down with flu-like symptoms. This question in the survey received 6,454 responses. 51 districts of UP were included in the survey, 68% of the participants were men while 32% were women. 47% of respondents were from tier 1 districts, 31% from tier 2, and 22% respondents were from tier 3, 4, and rural districts complaining of Seasonal Flu.

On an aggregate basis, 19% of Haryana households have 1 or more members who are currently down with flu-like symptoms. This question in the survey received 5,911 responses. In Haryana, 69% of the participants were men while 31% were women. 51% of respondents were from tier 1 districts, 28% from tier 2, and 21% of respondents were from tier 3, 4, and rural districts.

Within the state of Uttar Pradesh, Ghaziabad and Noida (Gautam Buddha Nagar) districts reported the highest instances with 23% of respondents from Noida claiming to have one or more person in the household impacted by it while 17% of respondents from Ghaziabad claimed to have one or more in the family experiencing flu symptoms. Most other locations had single-digit percentages indicating that NCR cities of Uttar Pradesh are likely experiencing the surge because of their proximity to Delhi.

As per Sachin Taparia, Founder of LocalCircles, “If the responses are compared across the states of Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, Delhi is currently seeing the highest impact of this flu with 41% households having one or more member having symptoms like headache, fever, runny nose, fatigue, etc. while in Haryana the prevalence is around 19%. However, the cities of both Haryana and Uttar Pradesh that are near Delhi are experiencing higher instances than those that are away from Delhi”.
