Security forces in Kashmir scored a significant victory by eliminating six terrorists in two encounters in the Kulgam district. The operations began at around 1:20 PM yesterday in the Matergam area and continued for over 15 hours. There were no civilian casualties or collateral damage.

Encounter Details

In Firsal, Kulgam, four terrorists were neutralized, but the operation saw the loss of an army soldier, Havaldar Raj Kumar of 1 RR Kulgam. During the Matergam encounter, three terrorists engaged with security forces. Lance Naik Pradeep Nain, a para commando, was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries. Among the terrorists eliminated was a top commander active for a long time. As reported earlier, this story has had previous updates.

Background and Impact

Kulgam, once a hotspot for terrorist activities, has transformed into a tourism hub since 2019. However, Pakistan’s recent efforts to revive terrorist networks in the region have led to renewed hostilities. The Kulgam region, near the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, is a crucial route for the Shree Amarnath Yatra.

Operation Execution

Based on credible intelligence, security forces initiated a cordon and search operation. As they approached, the terrorists opened fire, leading to a retaliatory response. Both encounters took place in residential areas, and security forces ensured the evacuation of civilians to safer locations before engaging the terrorists.

Outcome

Seven terrorists were neutralized, and two soldiers were martyred. A substantial cache of arms and ammunition was recovered, indicating the terrorists were planning a significant attack. The peaceful atmosphere in Kashmir and recent record-breaking voter turnout in elections are developments intolerable to Pakistan and its sponsored elements.

Statement

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi, confirmed the successful operations and the martyrdom of the soldiers in an interview with ITV Network. This operation is noted as the most successful of the year, highlighting the relentless efforts of security forces to uphold peace and security in the region while prioritizing civilian safety.
