Kim Kardashian recently opened up about her family’s health challenges, revealing that one of her sons, whom she shares with ex-husband Kanye West, has been diagnosed with vitiligo. This rare skin condition, which causes patches of skin to lose their pigment, was inherited from her, Kardashian shared during a podcast appearance, according to E! News.
“Psoriasis came from my mom, went to me, and then I passed it on in a different form to my son, who has vitiligo,” Kardashian explained.
Vitiligo, as described by Mayo Clinic and reported by E! News, results in patches of skin losing color and can affect any part of the body. Kardashian contrasted this with her own struggle with psoriasis, an autoimmune condition that causes red, scaly skin patches.
Kardashian, who also has daughters North and Chicago, shared that her psoriasis symptoms appeared when she was 30 years old. She recalled her mother, Kris Jenner, pointing out the condition during a family gathering. “My mom looked at my legs and goes, ‘Oh my god, you have psoriasis,'” Kardashian recounted.
Initially skeptical, Kim Kardashian confirmed the diagnosis with a dermatologist and began treatment, including cortisone shots, to manage the condition. Despite experiencing periods of remission, her psoriasis has been persistent, recurring about five years after the initial diagnosis and continuing to this day.
