In a rare medical case, doctors in Bihar’s East Champaran district successfully removed several metal objects, including a key ring, a small knife, and nail cutters, from the stomach of a 22-year-old man.

Emergency Surgery in Motihari

The young man was admitted to a private hospital in Motihari, the district headquarters, after experiencing severe abdominal pain. Concerned about his condition, his family sought immediate medical attention. Dr. Amit Kumar, who led the surgical team, revealed that the patient had been undergoing psychiatric treatment, which was likely linked to his unusual behavior.

Discovery of Metal Objects

An X-ray examination provided the shocking discovery of multiple metal items lodged in the man’s stomach. “The initial surgery revealed a key ring, but further exploration uncovered two keys, a four-inch knife, and two nail cutters,” Dr. Kumar explained.

When questioned by the medical team, the youth admitted that he had recently begun swallowing metal objects. His psychiatric condition, for which he was already on medication, likely contributed to this dangerous habit.

Patient’s Recovery and Discharge

Following the successful removal of the objects, the patient’s condition has been steadily improving. “He is now in stable condition and will soon be discharged from the hospital,” Dr. Kumar confirmed. The case highlights the importance of addressing underlying mental health issues that can lead to such extreme behaviors.

The young man’s family, relieved by the outcome, continues to work with medical professionals to manage his psychiatric condition, hoping to prevent any recurrence of such incidents in the future.
