The tallest male dog in the world, Kevin, passed away shortly after being officially recognized for his record-breaking height, Guinness World Records confirmed. Kevin, a 3-year-old Great Dane, fell ill and underwent unexpected surgery.

Standing at 3′2″, Kevin was certified as the world’s tallest dog on March 20. When he stood on his hind legs, he towered over his owner at 7′ tall.

Kevin’s owners, the Wolfe family, initially weren’t planning to adopt another Great Dane after the loss of a previous pet. However, they decided to adopt him when a friend posted about the last Great Dane from a recent litter needing a home. They named him after Kevin McCallister from the movie “Home Alone.”

Tracy Wolfe described Kevin as a gentle giant, despite his imposing size: “In fact, he is scared of most things. He is terrified of the vacuum. He won’t let it come within 6 feet of him. He will jump and run to get away from it.”

Kevin got along well with other dogs and would crouch to make himself seem smaller and less intimidating.

Great Danes typically have shorter lifespans compared to smaller dog breeds, averaging 8-10 years, according to the American Kennel Club.
