KERALA STILL LOGS 60% OF TOTAL NEW COVID CASES, 50% DEATHS

While India reports 30,773 new Covid cases and 309 deaths, Kerala registers 19,653 infections, 152 deaths.

With 30,773 new Covid-19 cases and 309 deaths in the last 24 hours, India has reported less than 50,000 cases for 84 consecutive days now. However, with 19,653 fresh infections and 152 fatalities, Kerala continues to remain a big concern.

As India reported 30,773 new cases, the active caseload has reached 3,32,158, however it accounts for 0.99 per cent of the total cases. According to the data of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday, 3,26,71,167 people have recovered from the disease out of which 38,945 people recovered in the last 24 hours.

Moreover, the death toll has escalated to 4,44,838 as 309 people succumbed to the disease. However, the recovery rate currently stands at 97.68 per cent, while the weekly positivity rate stands at 2.04 per cent which is less than 3 per cent for the last 86 days.

As for Kerala, it reported 19,653 fresh Covid-19 infections and 152 fatalities, as per the state health ministry on Sunday. Following this, the total cases of Covid-19 jumped to 45,08,493 including 1,73,631 active cases in the state. Cumulative recoveries in the state are at 43,10,674 including 26,711 new recoveries. While the total death toll reached 23,591.

Of the 1,13,295 samples tested in the last 24 hours, a test positivity rate of 17.34 per cent was observed.

As Kerala is all set to re-open schools on 1 November, Education Minister V. Sivankutty on Sunday said a comprehensive plan is being prepared in consultation with various stakeholders for the re-opening of educational institutions.

“A discussion with Health Minister was held regarding the matter and schools authorities have been requested for the preparedness. The plan will be prepared and submitted to the Chief Minister before October 15,” the minister told the media. Sivankutty further explained, “The meetings will be held at the state and district levels and a shift system would be implemented in schools with more than 7000 students.”

Delhi reported 28 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours and no fatality was reported due to the disease in the period. There are 387 active Covid-19 cases in the city. The total number of cases in the national capital has gone up to 14,38,497, of which 14,13,025 have recovered while 25,085 people succumbed to the viral infection. The fatality rate in the city is 1.74 per cent.

The daily positivity rate in the city is at 0.04 per cent, while the cumulative positivity rate is at 5.34 per cent. In the last 24 hours, 63,302 Covidtests were conducted in the city taking the total number of tests conducted so far to 2,69,53,206.

According to the official data, there are 103 containment zones in Delhi. As many as 1,59,66,480 Covid vaccine doses have been administered in Delhi so far. Out of this, 1,11,76,974 beneficiaries have received a single dose of the vaccine while 47,89,506 people have received both shots.

India, meanwhile, conducted 15,59,895 number of Covid tests in a day. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), India has conducted 55,23,40,168 number of Covid tests to date. India has administered 80,43,72,331 crore vaccines so far under Nationwide Vaccination Drive.
