In a horrific road accident five MBBS students lost their life, and two others injured seriously, as their car collided head-on with a Kerala State Road Transportation Corporation (KSRTC) bus at Alappuzha district on Monday night. The mishap occurred about 9 PM as the students, travelling in a Chevrolet Tavera at high speed.
The impact was so devastating, leaving the car dislocated, with broken windows, and twisted metal. Even so, rescue workers needed to cut through the wreckages for them to extract their patients. The front of the bus was also partially ruined; pictures taken from the field suggest that.

The officials identified the victim as Mohammed, Muhasin, Ibrahim, Devanand, and Shreedheep, who were first-year students at Vandanam Medical College. In one of the most tragic cases, three of them fell on the spot, whereas the other two died with their injuries while being transported to the hospital.
The two critically injured students are undergoing treatment at Alappuzha Medical College.
The accident reportedly took place when the car was trying to overtake a vehicle, applied brakes and skidded, and collided with a state bus. Four passengers from the bus, which was headed from Guruvayur to Kayamkulam, suffer minor injuries and are stated to be stable.
The authorities are conducting investigations on the causes of the accident. The local people believe that the speeding car and sharp turn might have led to the accident.
This sad incident has overshadowed the community and families of these MBBS students, focusing the need for road safety and responsible driving.
