Karachi’s residents are reeling under the burden of skyrocketing inflation, which has made even basic necessities unaffordable. Essential items like tomatoes, onions, and petrol have seen sharp price hikes in recent months, leaving families struggling to manage daily expenses.
One resident lamented, “Buying anything has become incredibly hard. Tomatoes and onions are so expensive they are out of reach for most households. The constant rise in petrol prices is driving up costs across the board, from food to household goods.”
The frustration among locals is mounting, with many accusing the government of neglecting its duty to regulate market prices. M Yaseen, a resident, pointed out, “There’s no proper oversight. Prices of essential items are being inflated without any checks. In the past, there were official price lists, but now there’s nothing to stop traders from overcharging.”
Another resident criticized the government’s priorities, stating, “The focus seems to be on business interests rather than public welfare. We’re struggling to afford food, yet there’s no meaningful action to provide relief.”
For many low-income families, even a simple meal has become a luxury. The cost of a modest breakfast for a family now reaches up to 500 Pakistani rupees, an unsustainable burden for those living paycheck to paycheck.
With inflation showing no signs of slowing, calls for government intervention are growing louder. Citizens are demanding measures to stabilize prices, enforce market regulations, and alleviate the financial pressure on households.
As Karachi’s residents grapple with these challenges, the need for effective and immediate government action is more critical than ever.
