Democratic candidate Kamala Harris vowed to end the ongoing war in Gaza. She also promised to bring home hostages and support both Israel’s security and Palestinian rights. At a rally in Michigan, just days before the election, she addressed the devastation in Gaza and the displacement in Lebanon. “This year has been difficult,” she said, acknowledging the widespread suffering. Harris then committed to doing everything possible to end the conflict. Additionally, she pledged to work on diplomatic solutions along the Israel-Lebanon border, adding, “We continue to work on diplomatic resolutions across the Israel-Lebanon border to protect civilians and provide lasting stability.”

A Call for Fresh Leadership in America

Shifting focus to domestic issues, Harris called for a “new generation of leadership.” “It is time for a new generation of leadership in America, and I am ready to offer that leadership as the next President of the US,” she stated. She emphasized her readiness to make healthcare accessible, lower living costs, and relieve the financial pressures facing families.

Focus on Affordable Healthcare and Lower Costs

Harris promised to make healthcare affordable and to cut taxes for workers and the middle class. She firmly declared, “Healthcare should be a right and not just a privilege.” She also committed to combating corporate price hikes on essentials and securing affordable healthcare for people with pre-existing conditions. “If you give me the chance on your behalf to fight as President, there is nothing in the world that will stand in the way,” she said. Her plans include reducing living costs, ensuring fair pricing, and making childcare and housing affordable.

Commitment to Reproductive Rights

Harris strongly supported reproductive rights, vowing to restore them nationwide. She promised that, once Congress passes a bill on reproductive freedom, she would “proudly sign it into law.” Harris emphasized the importance of this issue, stating that her fight includes protecting a woman’s right to make her own decisions.

The Close Presidential Race

The U.S. presidential election will take place on November 5. Harris will face former President Donald Trump, who aims to return to office. If elected, Harris would make history as the first female U.S. president. A recent New York Times and Siena College poll shows Harris and Trump tied at 48% in popular support. The close race reflects a period of intense competition and uncertainty in U.S. politics.
