Kamala Harris, the presumptive presidential nominee of the Democratic Party, has declared herself the underdog in the race to the White House. However, she expressed confidence in her people-powered campaign and its potential to secure victory in November.

During her first fundraiser since becoming the party’s candidate, Harris addressed a group of 800 supporters in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. “We are the underdogs in this race. Level set, ok. We are the underdogs in this race, but this is a people-powered campaign,” she stated. Harris emphasized the importance of the upcoming election as a choice between two visions for the country—one looking toward the future and one attempting to undo the nation’s progress.

“This is a people-powered campaign, and we have momentum,” Harris, 59, told the crowd. The fundraiser on Saturday significantly exceeded expectations, raising USD 1.4 million against an initial goal of USD 400,000.

Amidst loud applause, Harris confirmed that her campaign had earned the support of enough delegates to secure the Democratic nomination. She contrasted her vision for America with that of her Republican rival, former President Donald Trump. “What kind of country do we want to live in? Do we want to live in a country of freedom, compassion, and rule of law or do we want to live in a country of chaos, fear, and hate?” she asked.

Harris also challenged Trump, 78, to a debate, expressing disappointment that he had pulled out of their scheduled debate. “I hope he reconsiders because we have a lot to talk about,” she said.

Reflecting on her background as a prosecutor, Harris highlighted her experience in taking on various perpetrators, including predators, fraudsters, and cheaters. “So hear me when I say, I know Donald Trump’s type,” she asserted.

She accused Trump of spreading lies about her record. “You may have noticed, Donald Trump has been resorting to some wild lies about my record. And some of what he and his running mate are saying, well, it’s just plain weird,” Harris remarked, dismissing the accusations as baseless.

As the campaign intensifies, Harris remains focused on rallying support and emphasizing her commitment to a vision of progress and unity for the country.
