K-Pop Star Sriya Lenka Praises Indian Army Amid Cross-Border Tensions with Pakistan

Sriya Lenka, the first Indian K-pop singer and a South Korean girl group member Blackswan, has spoken out recently on behalf of Indian troops amidst rising tensions with Pakistan. In her Instagram Stories post, 23-year-old Odisha singer wrote, “Proud of our Protecters. Jai Hind.”

Her message was issued at a time of increased tensions between India and Pakistan after the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which killed 26 tourists. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting several terror camps with a series of missile strikes this week.

Netizens React Online

Sriya’s public message quickly went viral on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), where users applauded her for standing up. One of the users wrote, “Black Swan Sriya Lenka voiced in favor of India. Finally an Indian k-pop idol with the backbone to voice her people.” Another named her a “real” celebrity and stood proud in her words. Some even issued a warning that “anti-Indian” forces online may attempt to harm her for her stand, telling people to “keep an eye on her.

Outside of Lenka, Indian K-pop fans have also been in support of the military in solidarity. Fans have been expressing themselves online, openly critiquing Pakistan and applauding artists for their patriotism.

About Sriya’s Career in K-Pop

Sriya started her rise to fame when she signed with ‘Blackswan’ after going through intense six-month training under the South Korean record label DR Music Entertainment. Besides Sriya, other members of the multi-national group include Fatou, Gabi, and NVee.

During a previous interview with Zoom, Sriya spoke of her childhood ambitions, telling she always wanted to act on “a huge stage” and in front of a “massive crowd.” She also mentioned the emotional rush that comes with being hugged by fans as “India ki beti,” stating that it greatly affects her each time she hears it.
