In the first half of 2024, the South Korean TV network tvN delivered two consecutive mega-hit K-drama that have left an indelible mark on the entertainment landscape. The K-dramas Queen of Tears, featuring the star power of Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won, and Lovely Runner, starring Byeon Woo Seok and Kim Hye Yoon, premiered in March and April, respectively, captivating audiences both domestically and internationally.

Even months after their final episodes aired, the influence of these shows continues to grow, dominating OTT platforms and sparking ongoing discussions among fans and critics alike. Both dramas have been hailed as some of the standout Korean releases of the year, with their popularity showing no signs of waning.

Queen of Tears presented a compelling narrative that drew viewers in with its intricate plot and stellar performances. Kim Soo Hyun, known for his nuanced acting, delivered a powerful performance alongside Kim Ji Won, whose portrayal added depth and complexity to the story. Their on-screen chemistry and the show’s emotional storyline resonated deeply with audiences, earning critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase.

Lovely Runner, on the other hand, offered a fresh and engaging storyline that combined romance and drama with a unique twist. Byeon Woo Seok and Kim Hye Yoon brought their characters to life with charm and authenticity, creating a delightful viewing experience that quickly became a fan favorite. The show’s blend of heartfelt moments and dynamic plot twists kept viewers hooked from start to finish.

The success of these K-dramas is evident in their continued presence on streaming platforms, where they remain highly ranked and frequently watched. The buzz surrounding Queen of Tears and Lovely Runner has transcended the small screen, permeating social media and fan forums where discussions and fan theories abound.

Critics have praised both series for their high production values, strong writing, and outstanding performances. The widespread appeal of these shows underscores tvN’s ability to deliver quality content that resonates with a global audience.

However, after gaining global popularity, the online content of both Queen of Tears and Lovely Runner became targets of a hack. This cyberattack on July 20 took down the official YouTube channels of tvN Drama and its streaming platform, TVING.

TVING and tvN got hacked

The hackers renamed tvN Drama and TVING’s YouTube channels to ‘Ripple,’ affecting all their Korean shows, including K-drama Queen of Tears and Lovely Runner. They removed official content and replaced the network’s red logo with a blue fidget spinner-shaped icon.
