Amartya Rao (John Abraham), brutal, ruthless gangster dreams of ruling Bombay, the city of dreams in ‘Mumbai Saga’. Inspector Vijay Savarkar (Emraan Hashmi) is after him. Will Vijay be able to stop Amartya from accomplishing his goal?
The film is about the chase between a police officer and gangster. The first half is how Amartya becomes a gangster and most wanted person for the cops.
Amartya is a loving elder brother to his sibling Arjun (Prateik Babbar). Arjun is attacked by the goons of Gaitonde (Amole Gupte), and that is when he takes matters into his own hands and eventually becomes a ruthless gangster. Bhau (Mahesh Manjrekar) takes Amartya under him to rule Mumbai. The story takes a leap of 12 years where Arjun is protected by Amartya and sent to London for further protection.
Amartya kills a businessman (Samir Soni) as revenge for trying to harm Arjun, his wife (Anjana Sukhani) offers Rs 10 crore to the police to kill Amartya. The interval marks Emraan’s arrival in the film.
Every character shown in the film is larger than life and there is typical colour theme that Sanjay Gupta shows in his films.
John is perfect as a ruthless gangster but fails to deliver during emotional scenes. The actor tends to add charm to his tough face by showing his dimpled smile which talks a lot about his character. Action films are a comfort space for John and he makes the action scenes look easy. John does it with perfection.
Emraan aces his role as a tough encounter specialist. He is known to experiment with his roles. Emraan delivers dialogues with charismatic expressions and emotive eyes.
Mahesh as Bhau is in his element while Amole is amazing as a sarcastic Gaitonde. Gulshan Grover looks stylish as Nari Khan in his ‘Bad Man’ avatar. Rohit Roy who is part of Amartya’s gang makes his presence felt whereas Shaad Randhawa gets little to show. Prateik is usual in his performance. Suniel Shetty in a special appearance as Sada Anna leaves an impression.
Kajal Aggarwal. who plays John’s wife Seema, is there for moral support. Anjana hardly makes her presence felt. The dialogues are whistle-worthy. ‘Mumbai Saga’ is paisa vasool.
