ED arrested Shantanu Banerjee after interrogating him for eight hours in Kolkata. The case was registered on the orders of the Calcutta High Court against the then Minister-in-Charge, Department of School Education, West Bengal, and others on the allegations of illegal appointment of assistant teachers for classes of 11th and 12th standard.
It was further alleged that the then advisor of the West Bengal Central School Service Commission was part of the network that was involved in illegally accommodating undeserving candidates for appointment in SSC scam cases.
Shantanu Banerjee’s huge assets were traced in a recruitment scam. It is known that Shantanu’s alias ‘Raja’ empire spread across Balagarh, Chandannagar, and Chunchura-Hooghly. Hooghly Zilla Parishad office bearer’s property has been located one by one. This is not the end, from luxury homes to resorts, dhabas, guest houses, and hookah bars also included on the Shantanu’s property list.
According to ED sources, 20 properties of arrested Trinamool leader Shantanu Banerjee have been traced. Two cars were found in Shantanu’s luxury house and garage in Balagarh. Shantanu’s Luxury Dhaba Lounge on Assam Road, Zirat There is also a hookah bar on Assam Road in Zirat. Shantanu is also the owner of the “Ichchdana’ guest house opposite the dhaba, along with a luxury resort in Balagarh, also owned by Shantanu Banerjee.
