In a preview of the Union Territory’s tableau set to feature prominently at the Republic Day parade, Jammu and Kashmir’s Principal Secretary, Suresh Kumar Gupta, described it as a window into the region’s evolving landscape, bringing attention to new opportunities and dimensions.
Gupta shared, “The tableau is a window into the evolving landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting new opportunities and dimensions. We begin with the Jambu Zoo, the first comprehensive zoo in the region, named after Raja Jambu Lochan, the founder of Jammu.”
Continuing, he detailed, “The rear of the tableau showcases women engaged in our renowned Papier Mâché work, a craft celebrated globally. Furthermore, we depict the entire saffron processing cycle, from cultivation to harvesting and export, branding Jammu and Kashmir as the saffron bowl of India.”
Gupta emphasized, “The tableau includes the iconic Ghanta Ghar at Lal Chowk, illustrating its transformation from a once-feared location to a bustling tourist spot. Over the past year, we have witnessed the highest influx of tourists in the last 75 years, underscoring our efforts to showcase the state’s renewed image and progress.”
Simultaneously, Nazir Ladakhi, the Deputy Secretary of Ladakh, provided insights into Ladakh’s parade tableau, focusing on women empowerment and regional developments. “Our tableau aims to spotlight women empowerment and the achievements of our junior women. We proudly feature the Indian ice hockey team, comprising all 11 players from Ladakh, who have brought recognition not only to themselves and Ladakh but to the entire nation. Additionally, we showcase entrepreneurship in the pashmina shawl manufacturing sector and Umling La, the world’s highest road inaugurated this year.”
A total of 25 tableaux, including 16 from various states and union territories, along with 9 from central government departments, will be showcased at the Republic Day parade, with President Emmanuel Macron of France as the chief guest. The J&K tableau reflects the region’s progress and cultural richness on a national platform.
