Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain affirmed on Monday that the police force is fully prepared to ensure peaceful Lok Sabha elections in the region whenever they are announced, pledging to provide a safe and secure atmosphere for voters.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating a police post at Rohmoo in the Southern district of Pulwama, DGP Swain reiterated the readiness of the police force for the upcoming polls.
“We are fully prepared and geared up for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in J&K. We are committed to ensuring peaceful elections and will provide a safe and secure environment for enthusiastic voters,” stated the DGP in response to queries.

Responding to concerns about the nexus between narco-terrorism and terrorism, DGP Swain underscored the deep-rooted connection between the two. He noted that while doubts initially existed about the linkage, investigations revealed concrete evidence of their interconnection.

“Terrorist outfits like Al-Badr, Jaish-e-Muhammad, Lashkar-e-Toiba are involved in this trade,” stated the J&K police chief. Highlighting the financial implications of the narco-trade, DGP Swain revealed that a consignment worth Rs 15 lakh in narcotics could fetch up to Rs 1 crore while being transported from Kashmir to Delhi and other parts of the country.

“We have implemented a robust mechanism to combat and dismantle this trade. It’s a challenging task, but the police force is capable and determined to tackle it,” affirmed the DGP. As Jammu and Kashmir braces for the electoral process, the assurances from the DGP reflect the commitment of law enforcement agencies to uphold the democratic values and ensure the safety and security of voters during the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.
