While three MP’s from Kashmir valley recently boycotted the meeting conducted by Delimitation Commission to redraw the boundaries of assembly segments as well as the parliamentary seats in Jammu and Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday advocated for complete cooperation with the commission by all the political parties so that early assembly elections were possible here.

Recently Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the floor of the house said that statehood would be restored to Jammu and Kashmir at appropriate time however he did not mention any timeline for holding of elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha while talking to reporters at Jammu said, “Those demanding early Assembly polls in J-K must help and cooperate with the Delimitation Commission so that the process is completed and Assembly polls are held as soon as possible”.

He said that staying away from the delimitation process will only delay their work and it will delay the holding of elections in Jammu and Kashmir. He further said that once the delimitation process is over, the election commission will take the final call about the holding of elections for the assembly of Jammu and Kashmir.

It is in place to mention that when Jammu and Kashmir was downgraded as a Union Territory, the Union government announced a legislature for it. However for the Union Territory of Ladakh there is no legislature and it would be directly ruled by the Centre.
