The initial investigation into the murder of Jammu and Kashmir Director General (Prison) Hemant Lohia has pointed to his domestic help Yasir Ahmed as a suspect.

Late Monday night, Hemant Lohia was discovered dead at his home in Jammu’s Udeywala, his throat slit. The incident occurred around 11.45 p.m. The 57-year-old Assamese cop was recently promoted and appointed as the DG Prisons in August.

CCTV footage collected from the crime scene, according to top Jammu and Kashmir Police officials, shows Yasir fleeing after committing the crime.

The killing occurred while Union Home Minister Amit Shah was in Jammu and Kashmir and will be in Srinagar today.

Yasir had been working in the senior cop’s house for the past six months, according to J&K Police officials. The initial investigation revealed that he was quite aggressive in his behaviour and was also said to be depressed.

As of now, no terror angle has emerged. However, a thorough investigation into the killing that has sent shockwaves throughout the Kashmir Valley is underway. The murder weapon, as well as some documentary evidence revealing his mental state, have been seized.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have asked citizens to share any information they may have about Yasir Ahmed with the appropriate authorities. The police have also provided phone numbers (9797517317, 9419101474, 0191-2543937) for people to call in order to find out where Yasir is.
