The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will contest the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections in alliance with National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU), Janata Dal (United) (JDU), and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP). The party confirmed this during a joint press conference on Friday.

According to the seat-sharing agreement, AJSU will contest 10 seats, JDU will contest 2 seats, and LJP will field a candidate for the lone Chatra seat, while the BJP will contest the remaining 68 seats in the 81-member assembly.

NDA Leaders Outline Election Strategy

Addressing the media, State BJP president Babulal Marandi, AJSU chief Sudesh Mahato, and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who is the election in-charge for Jharkhand, emphasized the unity within the NDA ahead of the elections. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, also present, provided details about the seat distribution.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan confirmed that the NDA will contest the elections as a unified front. “BJP, AJSU, JDU, and LJP will contest together, and we have reached an agreement on seat-sharing. Candidate announcements will follow shortly,” he stated.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma outlined the preliminary seat-sharing arrangement, noting, “AJSU will contest 10 seats, JDU on 2, and LJP will contest one seat. There may be slight adjustments, but this is the current arrangement.”

Election Schedule and Voter Demographics

The Election Commission of India announced that the Jharkhand Assembly elections will be held in two phases, on November 13 and 20, with votes counted on November 23. The state has 2.60 crore eligible voters, with 1.31 crore male and 1.29 crore female voters, including 11.84 lakh first-time voters.
