Indian weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga clinched the second gold medal for India at the Commonwealth Games 2022 and created a record by breaking a combined lift of 300 kg in the men’s 67 kg final on Sunday.

Jeremy lifted a total of 300 kg, with 140 kg in snatch, and 160 kg in clean and jerk round, with this he won the country its fifth medal at CWG 2022 and a second gold medal.

Taking to Twitter Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Jeremy and said, “Our Yuva Shakti is creating history! Congratulations to @raltejeremy, who has won a Gold in his very first CWG and has set a phenomenal CWG record as well. At a young age, he’s brought immense pride and glory. Best wishes to him for his future endeavors.”

Meanwhile, Jeremy in his first Snatch attempt successfully lifted 136 kg and move to the top of the leaderboard. By lifting 140 kgs in his second Snatch attempt Jeremy set up a new Commonwealth Games.

Earlier on Saturday, Indian women’s weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won the gold medal on the second day of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Mirabai Chanu has won the gold medal for the second time in a row. Chanu won the gold medal in the women’s 49 kg category. Chanu lifted a weight of 109 kg in her first attempt at clean and jerk and won the gold medal. Meanwhile, Sanket Sargar and Gururaja Poojary won silver and bronze medals, respectively.

However, Vaipava Loane of Samoa gained a silver medal and Nigeria’s Edidiong Joseph Umoafia gained a bronze medal.
