Jay Shah has officially taken over as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), marking the end of his tenure with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Shah succeeds Greg Barclay, who held the position since 2020.

Shah, who began his cricket administration journey in 2009 with the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA), quickly rose through the ranks. In 2019, he was elected as the youngest-ever Secretary of the BCCI.

In his inaugural address as ICC Chairman, Shah expressed gratitude to ICC directors and member boards for their trust, pledging to enhance cricket’s global reach and resources.

“I am honoured to take on the role of ICC Chair and deeply appreciate the support and trust placed in me by the ICC Directors and Member Boards. This is an exciting time as we approach the LA28 Olympic Games and work towards making cricket more inclusive and popular. We are at a pivotal moment for the coexistence of multiple formats and accelerating the growth of the women’s game. My focus is on unlocking cricket’s global potential, engaging fans, and ensuring world-class resources for players worldwide,” Shah stated.

Earlier speculation suggested delays in Shah’s ICC appointment due to controversies surrounding the 2024-25 Champions Trophy. However, with Barclay stepping down, Shah’s tenure began smoothly despite the rumors.

Shah’s Goals as ICC Chairman

Shah highlighted priorities such as promoting cricket’s inclusion in the LA28 Olympics, advancing the women’s game, and navigating the coexistence of various cricket formats. His leadership is anticipated to guide the ICC through these transformative times.
