Pakistan: Javed Khan, the leader of the Awami National Party shot dead in Swabi

Awami National Party (ANP) provincial council member Javed Khan, 55, was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycles in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday, according to Pakistan-based Dawn.
According to DSP Jawad Khan, a preliminary inquiry revealed that the perpetrators shot at the ANP leader from a very close range. According to the Dawn report, Khan stated that the intruders went closer to him and opened fire on him.

Abbas Khan, Javed Khan’s son, informed authorities that he was in Swabi city purchasing necessities when he learned of his father’s death. He claimed that his father had died near the Swabi graveyard in Qasimkhel.
Locals told Abbas Khan that two unidentified motorcycles suddenly approached and opened fire on his father with a pistol, killing him on the scene, according to Dawn. The attackers were able to depart the scene.

Nawabzada, the ANP district general secretary, stated that it was unclear whether the occurrence was the result of terrorism or animosity. However, DSP Jawad Khan said that it was not a terrorist attack and that he was targeted by relatives with whom his family had a conflict.
Earlier this month, the elders of the Bar Qambar khel tribe in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bara expressed severe worry over the escalating number of targeted killings and urged law enforcement to take quick action to bring the situation under control, according to Dawn.
