EAM Jaishankar extends greetings to Brazil on its Independence Day

On Thursday, Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Luiz Iecker Vieira and the nation’s citizens received greetings from India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in honor of Brazil’s Independence Day.

Taking to X, Jaishankar said, “Warm felicitations to FM Mauro Vieira and the Government and people of Brazil on their Independence Day. In this historic 75th year of diplomatic ties, our strategic partnership and south-south solidarity continue to deepen.”
India and Brazil share a close and multifaceted relationship which is based on shared democratic values and convergence of views on many global issues, according to a release from the Ministry of External Affairs.

In addition to bilateral cooperation, the two nations also participate in multilateral organizations like the UN and WTO in addition to plurilateral fora like BRICS and IBSA. In 2006, the relationship between India and Brazil was upgraded to a Strategic Partnership, ushering in a new era of cooperation. With numerous high-level meetings over the past ten years, India and Brazil’s relationship has gotten stronger. With back-to-back VVIP visits in 2019 and early 2020, it will continue to do so.

On June 29, 2019, PM Modi had a brief encounter with Jair Bolsonaro outside the G20 Summit in Osaka. During the meetings, significant bilateral issues were covered, creating chances for both parties to advance the strategic partnership. On November 13, 2019, PM Modi and President Bolsonaro met in private on the sidelines of the XI BRICS Summit in Brasilia, which was taking place from November 13–14. President Bolsonaro had traveled to India for a state visit from January 25–27, 2020, at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi. On January 26, 2020, he attended India’s Republic Day Parade as the chief guest.
