Jamia Millia Islamia’s (JMI) Vice-Chancellor announced that the institution would encourage medical education in the coming years. JMI VC Najma Akhtar also said, “Jamia Hamdard University and Jamia Millia Islamia will collaborate in the capital to set up medical and unani colleges and courses.”

Speaking at an event on the occasion of 100 years of the institution’s foundation, she highlighted the importance of strengthening medical education and infrastructure. “The Covid-19 pandemic has taught us about the focus on the healthcare sector and we will be doing that. It also requires work to be done by several vice-chancellors and not just one,” said Akhtar.

She also emphasised the need for safe hostel facilities for female students so that they can receive their education in a secure atmosphere.

Hamid Ahmed, the Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard University, who was also a chief guest at the event, proposed a fully funded Hakeem Abdul Hameed Chair at Jamia Millia Islamia which can be a centre of research and be utilized for the common objectives of both the institutions.
