External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will visit Italy from November 24 to 26, 2024. During this visit, he will engage in significant international events, including the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the MED Mediterranean Dialogue.

G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

Jaishankar will attend the Outreach Session of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Fiuggi, Italy. India has been invited as a guest country for this session. According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), “EAM will travel to Fiuggi to participate in the Outreach session of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, where India has been invited as a guest country.”

While in Italy, he will also hold bilateral discussions with Italy’s counterparts and other participating nations.

MED Mediterranean Dialogue in Rome

In addition, Jaishankar will take part in the 10th edition of the MED Mediterranean Dialogue in Rome. This conference is organized by the Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI) in partnership with Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The dialogues aim to address key challenges in the Mediterranean region, such as security and socio-economic issues.

As part of his visit, Jaishankar will also inaugurate the new premises of the Embassy of India in Rome.

Previous Engagements with Italy

Jaishankar’s upcoming visit follows his first bilateral trip to Italy in November 2023. During this visit, he and Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani reviewed the strategic partnership between the two nations. They also signed agreements on Migration and Mobility Partnership and the Executive Programme on Cultural Cooperation for 2023-27.

Earlier in June 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the G7 Outreach Session in Italy. At the summit, he met Pope Francis and key world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
