IT’S THIRD WAVE OF COVID IN DELHI, BUT DON’T PANIC: CM KEJRIWAL

City witnesses another highest single-day spike as it records 6,842 new coronavirus cases.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said that a third wave of Covid-19 is now sweeping through the city and the government is preparing for all contingencies. He, however, told the residents not to panic.

The national capital on witnessed another highest single-day spike where it recorded 6,842 new Covid-19 cases, 5,797 recoveries, and 51 deaths in the last twenty-four hours. Total cases are 4,09,938 including 3,65,866 recoveries, 37,369 active cases, and 6,703 deaths.

“For some time now, Delhi has seen an increase in the number of the coronavirus cases. We may refer to it as the third wave. We are holding a review meeting tomorrow over this,” CM Kejriwal said.

The CM said authorities are preparing to ensure there is no shortage of hospital beds during any emergencies. “We are also going to contest in the Supreme Court that high court order on our rule to reserve up to 80% ICU beds reserved (for Covid-19 patients) in private hospitals,” he said.

Meanwhile, with 46,254 new infections on Wednesday, India recorded 83,13,877 confirmed Covid-19 cases, including 1,23,611 deaths. A total of 76,56,478 people have recuperated from coronavirus so far. There are 5,33,787 active cases in the country which comprise 6.42% of the total caseload. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka have reported the highest number of cases. However, infections are rising rapidly in Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal among others. Yet, India’s recovery rate continues to rise and now stands at 92.09%.

Maharashtra reported 5,505 new Covid-19 cases, 8,728 discharges, and 125 deaths in the last 24 hours. Coronavirus tally of the state is 16,98,198 including 15,40,005 recoveries, and 44,548 deaths. Active cases in the state are 1,12,912.

Haryana reported 1,952 fresh coronavirus cases taking the caseload to 1,74,082 while 19 more fatalities took the Covid-19 related death toll to 1,836. Active cases in the state currently are 14,110 while the recovery rate is 90.84%. A total of 1,58,136 patients have been discharged after being cured of the infection.

With 2,204 fresh cases, the total count of coronavirus infections went up to 4,89,502 in India’s largest populous state Uttar Pradesh and the total number of fatalities are 7,104 with 16 more deaths. Gujarat’s Covid-19 tally rose to 1,76,608 with 975 new cases, the death toll is 3,740 with six more fatalities.

The tally of coronavirus infection in Rajasthan rose to 2.03 lakh recording 1,770 new cases in the last twenty-four hours, while the death toll reached 1,945 with nine more people succumbing to the disease. The total number of people infected by Covid-19 are 2,03,990 out of which 16,323 are under treatment. As many as 1,85,722 people have been discharged after treatment till now.

The total coronavirus positive cases increased to 8,33,208 in Andhra  Pradesh with the addition of 2,477 cases in the last 24 hours but the overall infection positivity rate dropped below 10% after about four months. The overall infection positivity rate stood at 9.99% but Andhra Pradesh now boasts a recovery rate of 96.62%, the highest in the country.

Kerala added 8,516 fresh Covid-19 cases, including 67 health workers, while 8,206 patients have recovered from the disease. The toll has climbed to 1,587 with 28 recent deaths due to the disease.

Jammu and Kashmir recorded 512 new positive cases of Covid-19, while nine deaths took place in the last 24 hours, taking the number of cases to 96,700 and the death toll to 1,511. Out of the fresh cases, 186 were from Jammu division and 326 from Kashmir valley.
