Officials reported on Tuesday that an Indian employee of the UN lost his life in Gaza after an attack in Rafah targeted his vehicle.

According to sources, an Indian employee of the UN was murdered in Gaza after an attack on his car occurred in Rafah, marking the organization’s “first international” casualty since the Israel-Hamas conflict began.

As the UN vehicle proceeded to the European Hospital in Rafah, it was attacked. A staff member of the UN Department of Safety and Security (DSS) lost their life as a result.

As they were travelling to the European Hospital in Rafah this morning, a UN vehicle was struck, resulting in the death of one DSS employee and the injury of another, according to Farhan Haq, the deputy spokesperson for the UN secretary-general, who made the announcement on Monday.

The statement continued to adding, “The secretary-general calls for a full investigation and condemns all attacks on UN personnel.”
