Ravichandran Ashwin is returning home to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), having been purchased for Rs 9.75 Crore at the IPL 2025 auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Rajasthan Royals, focusing on nurturing young talent like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, and Dhruv Jurel, decided not to retain Ashwin or Yuzvendra Chahal for the upcoming season.
There had been significant speculation about Ashwin’s possible return to CSK, with reports suggesting the franchise’s interest in bringing him back. This move would reunite Ashwin with MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja for the first time since 2015, further fueling the rumors.
Ashwin, a 38-year-old veteran and also a YouTuber, had earlier contributed to the speculation by playfully auctioning himself to CSK in a mock auction on his channel. With a wealth of experience, Ashwin’s extensive all-round skill set continues to impress, helping him maintain his successful IPL career.

In his 211 IPL matches, Ashwin has taken 180 wickets and scored 800 runs. His IPL journey began in 2008 with CSK, where he initially had limited opportunities. However, in the 2010 season, he made his mark, and his standout performances contributed to CSK’s IPL victories in both 2010 and 2011. After spending six seasons with CSK, Ashwin moved to Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016 due to CSK’s two-year ban. Since then, he has played for Punjab Kings, briefly captaining them, and for Rajasthan Royals. Now, Ashwin returns to CSK, bringing his wealth of experience back to the franchise.
