Venkatesh Iyer emerged as the highest non-marquee pick in the IPL 2025 Auction, with Kolkata Knight Riders securing the India all-rounder for ₹23.75 crore. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant broke Shreyas Iyer’s record as IPL’s most expensive player, with Lucknow Super Giants spending ₹27 crore on the wicketkeeper-batter. This came right after Punjab Kings acquired Shreyas Iyer for ₹26.75 crore, surpassing Mitchell Starc’s record of ₹24.75 crore set in the previous auction.
Arshdeep Singh kicked off the auction as the first player sold, with Punjab Kings using their RTM card to secure him for ₹18 crore, beating Sunrisers Hyderabad. Gujarat Titans paid ₹10.75 crore for Kagiso Rabada, while Jos Buttler went to the same franchise for ₹15.75 crore.

In Marquee Set 2, Indian bowlers dominated, with Yuzvendra Chahal fetching ₹18 crore from Punjab Kings. Mohammed Shami was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹10 crore, while Mohammed Siraj was secured by Gujarat Titans for ₹12.25 crore. Among the top batters, KL Rahul was bought by Delhi Capitals for ₹14 crore on Day 1.
The two-day IPL Auction 2025, held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, saw 574 players available for bidding. On the first day, 84 top cricketers were up for grabs, with Day 2 featuring accelerated bidding and unsold players making a return.
