The Gujarat Titans emerged champions in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team has decided to wear a lavender jersey during their last home match of the ongoing IPL season. The Hardik Pandya-led team will be seen in lavender jerseys on 15 May encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
The aim behind wearing this costume is to create awareness regarding the critical issue of cancer, which has been responsible for the deaths of a huge number of people across the world, including in India.
The lavender colour has been chosen because it symbolises all kinds of cancer and serves as a reminder for those who are suffering from this devastating disease. The Gujarat Titans like to raise awareness about its early detection and prevention; a healthy lifestyle can play a key role in fighting against cancer, as per a press release from the team.

Cancer is the second-most common cause of death globally; in 2020, about 9.9 million people had lost their lives due to cancer. The rate of cancer has gone up in the last decade, resulting in a 21 percent increase in deaths.
Even in India, there is a chance that one of the nine is likely to be affected by cancer. The country recorded 14.16 lakh cancer patients in 2022, which is expected to go up at a rate of 12.8 percent by 2025 compared to 2020.
