Indian intelligence agencies have issued a warning that terrorists were planning a major terror attack in India on the anniversary of abrogation of Article 370. Reports from the Intelligence Bureau have stated that terrorists from PakistanOccupied Kashmir (POK) were trying to explore new infiltration routes and infiltrate in large numbers into Indian territory in the first week of August.

In addition, Pakistan’s InterServices Intelligence (ISI) has also directed its over-ground workers (OGWs) of terrorist outfits in Jammu and Kashmir to chalk out a route plan for infiltrators. The plan is to push terrorists into the Kashmir Valley. The report also mentions the heightened movement of Pakistani Army in POK areas such as Minimarg, Kamri, Dimel and Gultari, where both Pakistan Army posts and terror camps exist.

In the second week of July, ISI held a meeting with Pakistan Army and top commanders of different terror outfits at Muzaffarabad. The agency has directed terrorists in the Valley to attack on Indian security personnel. Terrorists have also been directed to use M4 sniper rifles and IED. They have also given directions to different terror organisations to unite and then attack security forces and their convoys. Bazaar Bagh, Janbazpura, Baramulla and Srinagar were also under target. While there was a possibility of grenade attack in Srinagar, terrorists were likely to target army convoy on Baramulla-Srinagar road and use OGWs to carry out to attack soldiers on the main road between Janbazpura and Ladura. There were several such other inputs of attacks received in the same areas. According to another input, Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) was planning to carry out an attack on forces deployed in the areas of Charar-e-Sharif Dargah and Gulshanabad Chowk in Budgam.

Also, in Pulwama, there was movement of terrorists to carry out reconnaissance of Srik road and attack Tahab camp and police station. Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists and the newly recruited ‘ The Resistance Force’ were planning on carrying out terror activities in areas of Awantipora. Security forces’ camps were also a part of their targets. Coordinated attacks were also planned by the JeM, LeT and AGuH terrorists on police camps and kidnapping of security personnel. ‘Fidayeen’ attacks were also planned in the district of Shopian by JeM. Terror activities was planned to be carried out in the general area Anantnag and a group of HM terrorists had also moved from Anantnag to the Warwan area of Kishtwar district to motivate local youth to join their cadre. Attacks on check posts and patrolling parties of forces in Tangpawa and Kokernag were also indicated. These activities had resulted in a continuous threat to Indian security forces and their convoys/routes/patrols and ROPs. The movement pattern of terrorists along the valley has been identified to be similar to that of the previous month.
