INS Valsura, the premier electrical training establishment of the Indian Navy, organised a three-day webinar on the contemporary topic ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Data-Driven Navy’ last week under the aegis of Southern Naval Command. The webinar was organised on the lines of demystification, demonstration and application of the AI technology.

 The webinar commenced with Commodore Ajay Patney, Commanding Officer, INS Valsura welcoming the participants to the webinar. Vice Admiral Anil Kumar Chawla, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command delivered the keynote address and stressed upon the importance of Indian Navy progressing in this niche technology of strategic importance. Kris Gopalakrishnan, co-founder and former co-chairman of Infosys Ltd, shared his perspectives on emerging technologies and their relevance to Indian Navy. 

Kanishka Agiwal of IndiaSouth Asia Amazon Web Services and Dr Vineeth N. Balasubramanian enlightened the participants on Cloud functionalities and Deep learning respectively. Day 2 of the threeday long webinar focused on demonstration of AI technology as Dr Ashok Goel from Georgia Institute of Technology and Mukesh Jain from Capegemini focused on using AI in academic world and armed forces respectively while Dr Shivaram Kalyankrishnan from IIT Bombay and Hrishikesh Bhope from Deloitte explained the participants upon AI models and validation techniques. Application of AI technology was the theme for the final day of the webinar wherein Dr Milind Tambe from Harvard University, Dr Shailesh Kumar from Reliance Jio, Sunny Manchanda from DRDO and Vishal Chahal from IBM presented their perspectives on various applications under development at industries.

 On all the three days, seven officers from Indian Army and Navy presented their papers on various professional topics pertaining to AI. Over 250 personnel from various units of Indian Army, Navy and Air Force participated in the threeday event over virtual platform which culminated with the closing remarks of Commanding Officer, INS Valsura who thanked all the speakers for providing their valuable knowledge and time for the webinar.
