Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], March 6 (ANI/NewsVoir): WSquare is India’s First Incubation Program for Women and has created an ecosystem across India of over 1 lakh women entrepreneurs and women on career break, with mentorship, re-skilling programs, digital transformation, networking and other 80 per cent initiatives.
enpact is one of the world leaders in cultivation of startup ecosystems, a Berlin-headquartered non-profit organization empowering entrepreneurship, ecosystems and international cooperation.
The Program Designer’s Lab is a capacity building training created by enpact to support accelerators, incubators, associations, NGOs, and ecosystem enablers at large who want to develop innovative and sustainable entrepreneurship programs. enpact is implementing the PDL in India for a consecutive second year as part of “The Female Entrepreneurship in Berlin and India” (FEBI) project.
“Especially in these difficult times, we are pleased to be able to continue supporting women entrepreneurs in India through valuable development cooperation. Despite various limitations, the creation of synergies and collaborations across borders is essential to drive innovation and learn from each other. Even if the real face-to-face cannot be replaced, the PDL proves that collaboration can also succeed virtually. The participants were able to develop remarkable ideas, exchange experiences and learn from each other in a very short time and under challenging conditions. From this point of view, the kick-off of the second cohort of PDL in India can be seen as a big success and we are looking forward to supporting the further development of the participants and their projects,” says the Director of enpact e.V., Wail Daoud.
Vandhana Ramanathan and Jinal Patel, the Co-founders of Chennai’s own WSquare is the First Team from Tamil Nadu to be selected for the FEBI Project that supports the development and growth of women-led companies in both regions through networking, training, and delegation trips. The project brings together female startup founders and business leaders, as well as support institutions such as accelerators, incubators, NGOs, and international startup ecosystem actors for delegation trips to India and Berlin which will take place partly during the AsiaBerlin Summit.
“Women need to be financially independent and they require motivation through more role models, which we hope to build through this program with global access and building a robust model,” said Vandhana.
“Our vision is to increase the number of women entrepreneurs in India to 50 per cent. We have been keen on understanding the challenges faced by women and this has helped in formulating the strategies of WSquare in these years, which we will be implementing into the program as well,” said Jinal Patel.

‘Asian Paints Where The Heart Is’ Season 4 kicks-off with music maestro Shankar Mahadevan’s Sprawling Holiday Home

Published

By

New Delhi [India], March 6 (ANI/SRV Media): Music maverick, Shankar Mahadevan’s sprawling holiday home on the foothills of a soothing stream, just an hour away from the bustling city of Mumbai; is a treat for the tired soul.
It is a true reflection of his work in music — bold, beautiful and nuanced in just the right way, and Season 4 of ‘Asian Paints Where The Heart Is’ takes you inside the heart of his beautiful abode.
Set in the countryside, his home hits the right notes on so many levels: there’s room for the family, there’s room for guests, and there’s room for his pet dogs. The privilege of space is something Mahadevan loves about homes outside the city.
As a couple of Mahadevan and his wife Sangeeta, love to host family and friends at their holiday home and entertain them with impromptu jam sessions. And their spacious, high-ceilinged living room is testament to that fact.
According to Mahadevan, the high ceiling provides the perfect acoustic reverberations for music. This is a stark contrast to the 500 sq ft house he used to live in Chembur, Mumbai in his early years. But the limited space wasn’t an issue as the music was all-pervasive, with jam sessions lasting through the night sometimes for 9 – 10 hours at a stretch.
Unique decor elements are seen through experimentation with color and texture that is used in bold strokes across the home. In his words, “playing with decor is much like playing with music: you can get it wrong, but that shouldn’t stop you from playing.”
Mahadevan and Sangeeta have lovingly named their home Sahana after a beautiful rag which interestingly they would have named their daughter if they were to have one. The piece de resistance, however, for Mahadevan lies in the calmy gushing stream that runs along the back of the sprawling property and provides its own nature’s music.
The past year, due to the pandemic, has given Mahadevan and his family a chance to spend more time together in this paradise they call home. Catch an exclusive tour of his home given by the musician himself, in the 1st episode of ‘Asian Paints Where The Heart Is’ Season 4.

KHPT in partnership with Central TB Division and USAID hosts a panel discussion on Gender Approach to Equitable Health: Perspective during a pandemic

Published

By

New Delhi [India], March 6 (ANI/BusinessWire India): Karnataka Health Promotion Trust (KHPT), in collaboration with the Central TB Division (CTD) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), held a webinar focusing on strengthening India’s health systems so they are more gender responsive, specifically in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The webinar brought together policy makers, health activists, and think tank leaders who discussed the importance of gender in responding to and determining the health needs of marginalized communities, especially women.
The panelists included Dr Nishant Kumar, Deputy Director, Central TB Division (CTD), the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Sangita Patel, Director, Health Office, USAID/India, Mohan HL, CEO, KHPT, Dr Avni Amin, Technical Officer, Department of Reproductive Health and Research on Violence Against Women, WHO, Geneva, Dalbir Singh, President, Global Coalition Against TB, Blessina Kumar, CEO, Global Coalition Against TB and Pallavi Prasad, Senior Journalist.
“KHPT is committed to empowering all communities especially the most vulnerable. Pandemics like any other disasters have a disproportionate effect on women, more so among the poorer and socially excluded community groups. There is a need for resilient systems that are equipped to address the unique needs of women in adverse circumstances. While we all aspire for equity in health, taking significant and actional steps towards this end through understanding barriers, designing gender sensitive solutions and building evidences of successes for scale is our responsibility. I am sure this discussion will provide practical insights from experts on how to collaborate towards our collective goal of ensuring health for all,” said Mohan HL, CEO, KHPT, drawing attention to the need for focusing on the most vulnerable population.
“In keeping with India’s commitment to ending TB, the CTD is currently expediting all efforts to ensure a comprehensive, multi-sectoral, person-centred approach to TB. In this context, to ensure gender-responsive TB care services, we have constituted a National Technical Expert Committee on TB in Women in October 2018. This framework reflects the interactions between TB and gender at various levels, and outlines the influences and constraints of gender on the TB burden and response; defines actions which would help move towards a gender-responsive approach; and provides guidance to implement these actions,” said Dr Nishant Kumar, Deputy Director, Central TB Division, MoHFW.
In her key remarks, Sangita Patel, Director, Health Office, USAID emphasized USAID’s commitment to address the issue and said, “I am proud that USAID and its partners take gender into consideration when designing and implementing health programs. USAID’s policy on ‘Gender Equality and Female Empowerment’ aims to improve the lives of vulnerable people around the world by advancing equality and empowering women and girls to participate fully in and benefit from the development of their societies. This is true for all our interventions, including the TB program.”
“Initiatives that engage men and boys must be intentionally gender-transformative by challenging harmful masculinities and male privilege and power over women. Such initiatives have the potential to reduce men’s risk behaviors, encourage their help seeking and facilitate men to share care work and decision-making In doing so, they can positively influence men’s own health and that of women by promoting gender equality as a key determinant of health,” said Dr Avni Amin, Technical Officer, Department of Reproductive Health and Research on Violence Against Women, WHO, Geneva, underscoring and acknowledging the involvement of boys and men in gender-based initiatives.
“Gender equality and gender equity can be addressed by using various approaches including legislation, organizational processes, and promotion of awareness and information gathering. Appropriate policy framework coupled with strong political will and resilient health systems could overcome gender inequities in access to and quality of care. Challenges like stigma and social ostracization and other vulnerabilities could be addressed by deeper engagement of communities and local governments,” said Dr Dalbir Singh, President, Global Coalition Against TB.
