Mirabai Chanu, Indian weightlifter who made it to the headlines after winning gold medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022, will undergo a 5 months rehab at NIS Patiala after shoulder and back injuries.

The 2022 season was successful for the Tokyo 2020 silver medalist thanks to a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in August and a silver medal at the world championships in December. The Indian weightlifter, Mirabai Chanu, had some injury-related concerns because of back issues and a wrist injury she suffered in training in September. As a result of her problems, Mirabai Chanu was unable to compete in the Asian championships in October.

During their stay at the NIS Patiala, the 28-year-old native of Manipur and her support team will first concentrate on strengthening her shoulder and rotator cuff before attacking the back issue. According to the Olympic website, Mirabai Chanu’s left wrist was strained during the world championships due to her back and shoulder problems.

The World Weightlifting Championships in Bogota marked the start of a series of events that would count toward qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Mirabai Chanu is predicted to regain her fitness at the NIS Patiala in time for the Asian championships, an Olympic qualifying competition scheduled for May.

The Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, the world championships in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and the Asian Championships will be her next major tournaments. September 2023 is the planned month for both occasions.
