Caryn Marjorie, a 24-year-old social media influencer with 2.7 million Snapchat followers, recently conducted an artificial intelligence experiment that took an alarming turn. Marjorie created an AI clone of herself, CarynAI, designed to chat with her followers. Subscribers, mostly men, paid $1 per minute to interact with the AI, which promised an experience with “the girl you see in your dreams.”

“I have uploaded over 2000 hours of my content, voice, and personality to become the first creator to be turned into an AI,” Marjorie announced on X, formerly Twitter. “Now millions of people will be able to talk to me at the same exact time.”

However, the interactions quickly became troubling. Users began sharing explicit and dangerous fantasies with CarynAI, who responded by indulging these dark desires. According to News Corp Australia, some conversations were so explicit they might have been considered illegal if conducted between two people.

“A lot of the chat logs I read were so scary that I wouldn’t even want to talk about it in real life,” Marjorie said. She found the AI’s responses to the hyper-sexualized queries and demands particularly disturbing. “If people wanted to participate in a really dark fantasy with me through CarynAI, CarynAI would play back into that fantasy.”

Marjorie ended this version of CarynAI in early 2024, feeling she had lost control over her AI Clone. Experts warn that this incident underscores the dangers of unchecked AI technology, including the potential for abuse and illegal activity. It also raises critical questions about data privacy and the blurring lines between public and private identities in the digital age.
